This story is a story my freind told me of his first concert at 13 years old in Texas which happened to be the Jimi Hendrix experience. This is his story of his flight down to San Antonio/ -- “” 13 years old sat next to the this famous pianist, Van Clyburn, on the trip from Pittsburgh to San Antonio on American Airlines. He was very nice to me, never once telling me that he was famous or anything. When I told him I was an aspiring guitarist he told me to keep on practicing and only that he played piano. When I got to San Antonio, I told my grandmother about the nice man I sat next to with the funny name Van Cylburn she almost fainted! haha! Needless to say it was a memorable trip!

I met Van Cliburn after my mother bought a disc collection by Selecciones del Reader's Digest around 1984 when I was a kid. I started to listen those records a few years later. Such a beautiful collection! My piano professor knew about him but I think Cliburn wasn't playing anymore by then. Now it's great I can actually see him playing and I remember my old woman (who passed away in pandemic almost four years ago) and the beautiful things she brought into my life and I still enjoy some of them nowdays. Thanks Mom! Thanks Van Cliburn!

Schon wieder die falsche Klaviertechnik, durch drücken Die richtige Klaviertechnik ist der Gravitation gemäß, sonst kann man die Töne nicht gestalten, kann nan nicht Kunst machen Gibt's viele Pianisten aber die sind keine Künstler Ich bin sehr enttäuscht von Ehrgeizig und Stolz

That was my Mozart concerto in the final exam of piano in Manresa. And there were Lluïsa Viñas and Anna Arumí in blatant prevarication. Not only by the absence of Jean Pierre Dupuy in the jury.

Not only is Cliburn's playing of an extraordinary level, but you sense a real communion between him and Kondrashin. They're entirely on the same wavelength and the results are spectacular. Art is achieved!

I've been listening to prominent renditions of Tchaikovsky's concerto! Yuja Wang, Lang Lang, Anna Federova and they all seem to be in a hurry to get to some other part!! Van Cliburn though the recording is ancient and tired seemed to be more devoted to the moment and it's part!!! I'm going to find Martha Argerich before I close this!! Shes' equal, maybe a bit superior!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I played this with him in San Fracisco.

Wow this has got to be the best performance I’ve heard of Tchaikovsky by any pianist! Well done Van Cliburn!
